Subject: Norah Needs You – Please join Be The Match bone marrow registry

 

Hello dear friends & family --

Norah, a 4-year-old daughter [fill in the blank -- of someone in my community], has recently been diagnosed with a rare genetic disease called Fanconi Anemia, which interferes with her body’s ability to properly repair its DNA. If untreated, this disease increases her risk of leukemia or bone marrow failure to 90%.

The only treatment for this disease thus far is a bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, none of Norah’s family members are a match for her. Norah is an Ashkenazi Jew and so it is expected that others who share her ethnicity are more likely to be a match. While the family hopes to reach Ashkenazi Jews in particular, they are also interested in recruiting all eligible donors as well. This increases the likelihood of finding a life-saving match for Norah and others in need.

The family is heartbroken but hopeful. They are organizing people to join the National Donor Registry with a simple, painless cheek swab at https://join.bethematch.org/swabfornorah.
